UCCA appealed to President Zelensky to sign into law the state recognition of Plast
The Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America (UCCA) – an organization representing more than 20 active national organizations of Americans of Ukrainian descent, appealed to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to support and enact into law “On state recognition and encouragement of the Plast National Scout Organization of Ukraine,” legislation passed by the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine on May 30th, 2019.
In their letter of support, UCCA recalled that President Zelensky himself noted in his inaugural speech that today in the world “there are 65 million of us … born of the Ukrainian soil.” And the law on state recognition of Plast would not only support the Plast scouting movement throughout the global diaspora, but also promote the Ukrainian identity of Ukrainian youth regardless of where they reside.
UCCA hopes that the President of Ukraine will soon enact this long-awaited and incredibly important legal recognition that will allow for closer cooperation between Ukrainian and American youth and will strengthen the economic, political and cultural ties between our countries.
