U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor-Genocide Awareness | October 28, 2022
As we commence the yearlong commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Ukrainian Holodomor, it is vitally important that the Holodomor be recognized as genocide by the United States government. Five years ago for the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor, both chambers of the U.S. Congress passed commemorative resolutions acknowledging the findings of the 1988 Commission on the Ukraine Famine that “Josef Stalin and those around him committed genocide on the Ukrainian people.”
The current war in Ukraine had been described by President Biden in April 2022 as “genocide.” While the war of russian aggression against Ukraine is indeed genocide, soviet-russian aggression 90 years ago must also be recognized as genocide. Below, please see the Call to Action infographic and QR Code to contact the White House on-line or call the White House’s comments line at (202) 456-1111. Request that President Biden recognize the Holodomor as genocide.

Dear President Biden:
The eight-month war of kremlin aggression against Ukraine must be stopped! Mr. President, in April 2022 you commented that russian brutality in Ukraine qualifies as “genocide.” Today the entire world recognizes the viciousness of russian aggression and expansionism.
Unfortunately, those russian traits of aggression have existed for centuries and affected Ukraine in 1932-1933 during the Holodomor, or ‘murder by starvation’. Stalin’s forced famine-genocide killed an estimated 7-10 million Ukrainians. All genocides must be recognized and acknowledged to effectively learn from history and to not repeat such atrocities in the future.
Early in your Administration, you designated the 1915 Armenian massacre as genocide. As an American of Ukrainian descent, I respectfully request that you also recognize the 1932-1933 Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian nation. Your designation of the Holodomor as genocide would speak truth to power and would redress a historical injustice of establishing U.S. diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union at the height of the Holodomor.
Thank you for your continued support of Ukraine. I look forward to your recognition of the Ukrainian Holodomor as genocide.
